Efficient Pixel-accurate Rendering of Animated Curved Surfaces
نویسندگان
چکیده
To efficiently animate and render large models consisting of bi-cubic patches in real time, we split the rendering into pose-dependent, view-dependent (Compute-Shader supported) and pure rendering passes. This split avoids recomputation of curved patches from control structures and minimizes overhead due to data transfer – and it integrates nicely with a technique to determine a nearminimal tessellation of the patches while guaranteeing sub-pixel accuracy. Our DX11 implementation generates and accurately renders 141,000 animated bicubic patches of a scene in the movie ‘Elephant’s Dream’ at more than 300 frames per second on a 1440×900 screen using one GTX 580 card.

Multi-Projector Imagery on Curved Surfaces
Curved screens are increasingly being used for high-resolution immersive visualization environments. We describe a new technique to display seamless images using overlapping projectors on curved quadric surfaces such as spherical or cylindrical shape. We define a new quadric image transfer function and show how it can be used to achieve sub-pixel registration while interactively displaying two ...

متن کاملThe Floating Column Algorithm for Shaded, Parallel Display of Function Surfaces without Patches
ÐThe floating column algorithm is a new method for the shaded rendering of function surfaces. Derived from the monochromatic floating horizon algorithm, it uses the partial derivatives of the function to compute surface normals, thus enabling intensity or normal-interpolation shading. Current rendering methods require tiling the surface with patches, so higher resolution patching is required fo...
متن کاملHardware Implementation of Phong Shading Using Spherical Interpolation
Computer image generation systems often represent curved surfaces as a mesh of planar polygons that are shaded to restore a smooth appearance. In software rendering Phong shading has been one of the most successful algorithms, because it can realistically handle specular materials. Since it requires the rendering equation to be evaluated for each pixel, its hardware support poses problems. This...
